Beak Thing

The Beak Thing is one of the deadliest creatures in the Golden Wastes.

These solitary carnivores are known to stalk caravans for miles without giving up. Their sharp senses allow them to detect distant movement often before a traveller knows they are being watched. They are also incredibly difficult to kill, with powerful limbs, thick bone plating and enough endurance to continue hunting through serious wounds. In the Wastes, seeing one often means that escape is already unlikely.

Appearance

A Beak Thing is a towering, four-legged predator with leathery skin, a long muscular neck, huge dark hooves and an enormous hooked beak built for tearing flesh and crushing bone.

Behaviour

Beak Things are fiercely territorial and almost always hunt alone. Once they notice a target, they may follow it quietly before beginning a relentless pursuit. They are patient, aggressive and rarely abandon their prey once the hunt has begun.

They can be found across the Golden Wastes in almost any flat, open environment. They are especially common on open plains and salt flats.

Loot

Their thick fur can be turned into desert clothing. The reinforced bone cap on the skull may also be shaped into an effective shield, but only if it is harvested and crafted correctly by an expert.
