Spikewood

Spikewood is one of the hardiest trees in the Wastes, built to survive where most plants would fail.
Its swollen base, thin trunk and flat crimson, orange and yellow leaves make it easy to recognise. Even when wilted or apparently dead, Spikewood can survive extreme swings between heat and cold, with some specimens living for centuries.
Larger trees can reach around two to three metres tall. Their ghastly grey bark is exceptionally tough and is often worked into durable shields.
Long black spikes grow from the trunk and branches, making harvesting dangerous without proper tools.
Spikewood leaves also have strong alchemical properties, though extracting them safely and using them effectively usually requires an experienced practitioner.
