Namesake
The area is often called the Golden Wastes because rare materials are unusually abundant there, including gold, luxury resources and substances prized in alchemy. It may also be due to the golden hue of the dusty mesas and waving dunes.
The Wastes is the common name for a vast stretch of land devastated by the Great Pulse.
The Wastes was already a hot, arid region before the Great Pulse. Now it is a patchwork of barren and dangerous regions shaped by extreme Zohm. The project focuses on the Gharob Region, one of the many regions within the Wastes.
The area is often called the Golden Wastes because rare materials are unusually abundant there, including gold, luxury resources and substances prized in alchemy. It may also be due to the golden hue of the dusty mesas and waving dunes.
Civilisation survives only in scattered pockets, built around flats, mountains, caves, geyser fields and other defensible terrain.
High Zohm levels make the Wastes unpredictable and dangerous. Strange flora, altered creatures and hostile environments are found across its many climates, making travel difficult even between nearby settlements.
